Everything seems cancelled…
I’ve always tried to be diligent with my credit card spending. It took me years before I was comfortable enough to pull out my charge card and swipe it with ease. I still have issues with using those cards, mainly because I’ve understood that the money extended to me isn’t altogether mine. So when talk of payback is mentioned I start to rethink and reevaluate the situation.
I wasn’t until I was at home by myself that I realized how tempting my credit card actually was. I sat on the couch watching a television as I calmly nibbled on bite sized Snickers bars. But after 6 hours of repeat shows, uninteresting music videos, and unrealistic reality television, I decided to that I needed to grab some dinner and maybe a few movies.
Disconnection Causes Isolation
When I felt as if I were ready to go out and live a little, I picked up my phone and dialed the number for a nearby video rental store. I was filled with paralyzing shock when I realized that I forgot my phone was inoperable. I wouldn’t be paid for another 3 days and was dead broke. I could have cried and fell into a ball on the floor. Instead, I decided I’d just look online to see how much money was on my debit card.
I only had $3.12 to my name. With no cash, and a stomach growling from hunger, I knew I might have to bust out the MasterCard or Visa logo. I wasn’t worried, though I felt a little uneasy about using it. After all, the last credit card purchase I made was six months earlier. Then I started to remember the mere three dollars on my debit card and I was out of the door quicker than the sweet smell of a woman’s perfume as she walks by.
How Quick Does YOUR Credit Card Work?
The ease with which to use a credit card is almost unparallel. The reason I say this is because when using one of those convenient cards, you’re spending money that you haven’t acquired yet. That means credit card users and spending money faster than individuals without that wonderful piece of plastic in their wallets.
I spent $20 in less than 30 minutes, can you believe that! I went to the movie rental place and picked up 5 movies, the total amount for a great movie night, and I picked up a Boston Market meal (they aren’t very cheap either). I figured, I was trusted enough to receive this card, so I’m going to use it when I need it. Then I purchased minutes for my cell phone, enough to not feel isolated any longer. I would finally be open to the world, I thought. Uncontrollable happiness is the only way to describe how I felt.
Playing Solitaire
When I arrived home, I knew I was going to have a great time. I set the movies in viewing order from action to drama. I even put my food in the oven while I took a quick shower. Knowing I’d feel wonderfully fresh and clean, entertained and fed, I decided to play a couple games of solitaire before digging into my food and movies.
Would you know that I fell asleep playing a solitary game of solitaire. I’d purchased movies (which had to go back to the store the next morning), food (I ate it cold the next day for lunch), and cell phone minutes (no one called me all night), but wasn’t able to experience any of it. I went to bed the next night thinking optimistically, “At least I had a credit card to use in the first place.” So true, isn’t it?
